Trust.

I entitled this blog Trust. The period end mark is there for emphasis.

Trust.

Trust is such a simple, little word. With it, a child walks through life confidently and unscathed. Without it, the strongest man will be crippled and withered emotionally.

Webster defines trust as

1 a: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of
someone or something.

My favorite scripture in God's Word is Psalm 25:1,2. "To you O, Lord, do I lift up my soul. In you I trust, O, my God. Let me not be ashamed. Let not my enemies triumph over me." David was in a situation where he proclaimed through music his trust in God.

If you go to studylight.org and study this verse out, you will see what the "soul" of man is all about.

soul, self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion, passion that which breathes, the breathing substance or being, soul, the inner being of man ,living being, living being (with life in the blood), the man himself, self, person or individual, seat of the appetites, seat of emotions and passions
activity of mind, activity of the will, activity of the character.

In Sunday school classes I have taught that the soul is man's awareness of himself as opposed to the spirit being God conscience and the body being world conscience. It is in the soul - our emotions, our will, and our intellect - that we battle the flesh as mentioned in Romans 6, 7, and 8.

So, with all of the above in mind, the psalmist says, "To you O Lord, I lift up my soul." He, David, gave up everything that was about David. His thoughts, his desires, his feelings, his emotions, even his will, he surrendered to God. When he did that, he was able to pen the next phrase, "in you I trust, O, my God. And there is that simple little word, trust.

Trust.

When we really trust someone, we trust their nature, their character, their words, and even their intentions. Hmmmmm. That is profound isn't it? I trust my husband. I am safe with him. He loves me more than he loves himself. But more than even that, I trust God. It doesn't always come easy, just like I mentioned in my last blog about Taylor. But when we daily lift up our soul to God - our thoughts, our feelings, and our wills,- then we can trust God's nature, His character, His Words and even His intentions and plans for our life.

I could go on, but I am going to stop there and ask you to do a word search on the word "trust". You can do it in any translation you like and then find the original Greek and Hebrew word used. Just take about 10 of the verses you found and look at them. What was the writer referring to when the word trust was used? What was the situation that required trust in God? Was there anything else that stands out to you about the word trust in these scriptures?

Simply trust. Sometimes we have to learn it. Sometimes we have to just do it. Sometimes we must die to our self in order to trust.

What about you?

Trust Him.

I find it easy to trust others...until they give me a reason not to. Once my trust in someone has been shaken it is then hard for me to allow the trust to build back up.
All of the verses I read talked about placing my trust in God and not as much in Man. That man can be untrustworthy but God is always trustworthy.
It is easiest for me to trust God when a situation feels like it only effects me. I find it more difficult when my children are going through trials. I think because I want to do something for them and make it better. When I need to pray more and not try to fix if for them.

amen to kay's words .... but it took me a long time to trust others in my younger years .... i had sooo many others break my trust that I had to learn to trust God and then to trust humans ...God blessed me with a strong spirit of descernment that opened my eyes to more than i wanted to see about others often times.... but it did prepare me for parenting ...
My greatest eyeopening experience was with my son. He was in a car accident in 1996 that totalled his truck and rolled him three times in the middle of the intersection of Summer and Parkway ... there was a police officer that knew my brother coming from the north, an off duty EMT jogging from the west , Patricia Clark, RN from west memphis right behind him when he got out of the truck to minister to him and a Officer that saw the accident that knew he was trying to miss a little old lady that turned in front of him and he had to swerve to miss her and started his roll overs.... the ambulance in front of the zoo picked him up and had him at the ER in 10 min .. he only had scratched on his back from crawling out of the vehicle... he had no other injuries.. his truck cab was crushed to a height of only 18 in and his chest is bigger than that ... IT WAS A MIRACLE!!!
God asked me "Linda what could you have done if you were there ?" He was with Sean and He will be with him all the time and I had to release Sean to God and trust that God had his best interest in mind ...My trust factor increased 1000 fold ... I have to have biggies I guess...

I am like Kay in I trust easily until someone proves to be someone I should not trust. I try to look for good in all I meet. I find it most difficult to trust God when things are changing. Why? I do not know, God has blessed my life so much and has taken care of me. (even when my choices are not good ones) I trust God, I just wish I knew why he does and chooses things different from what I want. (hmmm, that is probably why, he knows what I need) That is what I remind myself of daily, he knows what I NEED. Thank you Dorinda for all the work you put into this and for allowing me to give my feelings.

Trust is an emotional word for me. As a young girl most of the people that I trusted ended up hurting me therefore as I got older I began to doubt that you could trust anyone. Then I began going to church again and I felt that trust coming back into my life. Trust in myself, my husband, my friends, and most of all trust in God. This trust was tested when Andy was born. Through all the complications during the pregnancy I trusted that he would be born happy and healthy like most babies. When he was born and had complications, my trust was tested. It was tested spiritually b/c so many of the people in my past doubted me saying "God is protecting and watching over him and no matter what we will endure this and move on. Only God has the answers." It was tested internally because I knew the only thing that I could do was let go and let God do His will. As most of you know I again had complications with Ryan although this time around none were expected b/c he was born on time and without the labor complications I had had before. My trust was once again placed in the hands of doctors, nurses, and mainly God that all would be okay. When he was 3 days old and we almost lost him due to his heart condition combined with other things, I thought I would not know how to continue. However, we never lost sight of trust in each other and in God, as we prayed over him and with each other, we knew that whatever happened would be another stepping stone in our lives and we could not affect the outcome other than to trust God would carry us through and hope that he would be with us as well. As many of you know our boys now, they are both doing well and full of life! Andy has ongoing respritory problems but will outgrow them hopefully soon and Ryan has heart medication he takes 2 times a day, but they are growing into little boys that love life and trust that people love them. I love trust because trusting in Him through these situations was probably one of the biggest growths for me as a Christian. I learned that I have to let go and believe and trust in what God's plan is.
