I had to leave for the airport at 4:30 am on May 2nd. So May 1st was it. Everything had to be done before I went to bed - because I am most definitely NOT a morning person - unless I stay up until morning. Ha!
I checked and re-checked my lists. I organized and re-organized my suitcases. My Macy bag was packed and ready to go. (The Macy bag was my pride and joy for in it were dozens of little goodies for Macy during the 14 hour plane trip from Chicago to Beijing.) All I had left to do was to weigh each suitcase.
It is at this point in the story that I will pause for you all to chuckle.
If you have ever flown internationally for any length of stay, you understand my predicament. Now, a man usually doesn't have this problem; but we women! Oh, my.
I weighed my first suitcase and then my second. Something was going to have to go.
Finally, I agreed with Rusty. The cans of diet coke were dispensable. It seems I weighed the suitcases after each can was removed. :) I had erroneously concluded that it would be possible to take 1 can or more for each day abroad.
Pause for a chuckle again.
The snack crackers and other dietary supplements stayed, but ALL of the diet cokes had to remain stateside. (boo hoo!) Seriously, that was a major emotional battle for me! I had already, several years earlier, endured 10 days in Warsaw, Poland, with only coca-cola light to drink. Uuuugggggh!
I think I made it to bed at 2am. Rusty and I checked one last time the web-cams- my link to my family for the next 20 days. I fell to bed knowing that sleep would not come easily.
My short dreams were either of kissing my family here or of holding a new granddaughter in China.
Sweet dreams ~Either way you look at it.
